About the Artists: Lisa Naas & David Faleris

Lisa is a conceptual glass artist, a creativity researcher, and an experienced arts industry leader. In 2022, she was awarded her PhD from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) for her creative, non-traditional dissertation and her research on idea generation and glass creativity. She was fortunate to win the Principal’s Career Development Award from the University of Edinburgh to support her doctoral studies. Lisa also holds her MFA in Glass (2015) from Edinburgh College of Art and her creative practice pushes glass in new directions. Her collaborative work combining glass, sound, and engineering earned the Ingenious Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering (2015). Lisa just completed her tenure as Executive Director of Newburyport Art in Massachusetts, where she focused on creating access to the visual arts for the community. Her experience includes formal training in studio art and art history as well as a twenty-year professional career in arts administration that involved extensive work with the Archaeological Institute of America and the Tanglewood Music Festival in the Berkshire Mountains. At Tanglewood, she met her collaborator and counterpart, composer David Faleris. In 2020, Lisa and David formed TangledTree Studios, a joint studio and publishing endeavor. Together, they currently live, work, and create on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where they moved in Summer 2024 to support a unique opportunity for David.

David Faleris

An active and versatile musician, David Faleris wears many hats as a composer, trombonist, educator, and administrator. After completing his undergraduate work at Boston College (B.A. Music), David studied at The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University (M.M. Trombone Performance). Boston quickly lured him back though, and he served as Program Administrator for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute while teaching at Boston College and freelancing as a composer and trombonist for many years. Opportunities abroad became enticing and both he and Lisa made a move to Europe in 2013. While Lisa went to study in Scotland, David moved to Spain and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Valencia (M.M. Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games). After joining Lisa in Edinburgh, they were married in 2015 and David began working at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, while continuing his freelance composing career, focusing both on composing for visual media and new works for the concert hall. David's home state of Maryland called again and he and Lisa are both excited for a new chapter: David recently assumed the role of Executive Director for Chesapeake Music, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to engaging and supporting renowned musicians to delight, educate, and inspire audiences.
